Kahil is a young student sinking into depression, as nothing and no one seems able to help him. One evening, after wandering aimlessly through the streets, he tries to drown his sorrow in alcohol, leaning against the counter of some random bar. There, he meets Léon, a forty-something lawyer past his prime, who spends more time at the bar than at home. Brought together by their shared inclination for alcohol but also by their pain, they begin to get to know each other and open up.

Léon, moved by Kahil’s personal story, encourages him to move forward rather than waste his time in self-destruction. He also suggests they meet again, an invitation Kahil accepts. Thus, a friendship is born. After meeting again and discussing their respective projects, they part ways, each acting upon the advice they exchanged. Kahil writes the script for a film depicting a pivotal event in his life, while Léon rekindles his relationship with his wife, from whom he had grown distant over time.

The two newfound friends celebrate their victories over themselves, believing they have overcome the darkness that had taken hold of them. But they will still have to face the fate that awaits them. Only Lola, the narrator of the story, will accompany them through these perilous moments.
